Welcome to this fun mini workshop!
Many of you know I’ve been living in Italy for many years now, and one of my favorite places to visit has always been the city of Venice. There is something about those little windy streets and canals blended with the 18th century history that make it so inviting and artistically inspiring.
In this lesson, which originally my main lesson for “Around the World through art” 2018 collaborative workshop, I show you some fun collage & acrylic techniques where we will be creating a visual story through art.
In our bonus lesson We will be taking a virtual stroll through the poppy fields of Tuscany as we paint a landscape in acrylics creating some yummy texture and vivid colors.

WHAT KIND OF SUPPLIES TO I NEED FOR THIS WORKSHOP?
YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO BUYING EVERYTHING ON THE LIST, MANY THINGS MIGHT BE SUBSTITUTED FOR MATERIALS YOU ALREADY HAVE! BELOW IS A LIST OF TOOLS I WILL BE USING, ALONG WITH LINKS. DON’T HESITATE TO ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS
- Watercolor paper (I used cold pressed, 300gsm)
- Heavy body acrylics, a few inks or fluid acrylics if you have. (Some main ones I used are red and yellow cadmium medium, payne’s gray, burnt umber, manganese blue, alizarin crimson, titanium white, & quinacridone crimson, cerulean blue & manganese blue; Veridian green, green gold, and brilliant yellow green. You’ll also need a titanium white and either a dark purple or Payne’s gray for the shadows, and a dull yellow (I used Naples yellow).
- Various sized, soft acrylic paintbrushes (I used filberts, a square plus a small round for details)
- Stencils (optional- I used a Tim holts doily stencil for her dress)
- Pencil and kneaded eraser
- A rag and paper towels, baby wipes
- Palette
- Matt gel medium
- Acrylic Glazing fluid (optional)
- Collage papers or napkins, Gold leaf or flakes (optional)
- Canvas, wood panel or heavy acrylic paper
- Charcoal pencil
- Gesso & acrylic color such as burnt sienna or umber (for toning)
- A palette knife
