Tips when working with cheap quality pastels and paper

So about 2 weeks into this class I realized in the Facebook class group that a few of you were struggling with wither cheap/bad quality oil pastels and/paper. I totally understand that many can’t afford expensive or artist grade materials, as I hadn’t either for many years.

So I wanted to add this little video as an experiment so I could “feel your pain and struggles” as I tried a portrait of my own with the worst set of pastels and paper I could find..lol! You’ll see many times I want to throw it in the trash and just give up.

But I totally believe that we don’t always have to make a masterpiece! These classes are made for learning from our efforts, or even failures! I hope this encourages and inspires you to try with what you have, and keep going even when you want to throw in the towel, because that’s how we learn!

Let me share with you some tips and tricks on how to “make it work” and what to expect when working with these type of materials… and maybe even have a good laugh with me! 😀
