As we continue to define our totem with pastels I also decide to add a talisman, as I love adding symbolism in my work.

You can add whatever symbols speak to you, and what your spirit animals guide you to do.

I also want to add some more patterned collage paper in the last layers to indicate the owl’s wings.

Lastly we add some marks and line work. I love to add some variety and interest with repetitive patterns – like the circles in this case – to create continuity and cohesiveness to a painting.

I hope you enjoyed this as much I as I did!

In the next step we go a little further and add a layer of cold wax to seal it but also give it a dreamy, textured look. This is totally optional and if you prefer to leave it as is that’s totally fine too. Just make sure to give it a coat with satin or matt spray varnish. My go-to is a satin varnish UV spray, but if you decide to add the cold wax layer afterwards you can just use a regular pastel fixative).
