Drawing

There’s always been something about those transparent, ethereal skin tones that draw me into a painting.

I especially love to paint expressive eyes, trying to create that depth that makes you feel like you are looking into their very soul. The very essence of the artist that communicates a message or story to the viewer.

Watercolor is such a wonderful medium for this.

Have you ever noticed how your eyes can change shades in different light? I often look into somebody’s eyes and notice the shifts, the change, the light that shines and enhances with each lighting. It fascinates me and I often try to recreate this in my painting.

In this lesson I will show you just how easy it is by following these simple steps of layering to create depth.

I also adore painting with cool colors such as purples, blues, teal, and pinks as to me they reflect that ethereal quality and layer very well together, (and of course they are my favorite colors). But if you prefer lovely warm colors, like bright reds, oranges and yellows, than please feel free to use that instead, The important thing is to use colors you love, colors that reflect your personality. It’s when your color palette reflects yourself that everything becomes easier and more natural and you can just let go and have fun.

“The best color in the world is the one that looks good on you” -Coco Chanel

In the first video we begin to draw the features using a reference photo as a starting point. You will see my painting later strays away from the photo reference, as I prefer to add my own twists. Once we can let go and let the magic flow, our heart and soul are bound to shine through. 😉
