Graphite & charcoal

I know that sometimes we don’t have much time to get into an entire painting.

There are those days we just don’t have the patience, or maybe are too busy, or just plain preoccupied to concentrate.

Maybe you’re frustrated by something that’s happened or is happening and you can hardly contain the feeling?

You just want to let all out somehow, get out that raging inside to finally feel free of it?

It may not be something negative, you may even be so excited or happy about something but you can’t express it in words?

Whatever it is, it needs to get out and onto that paper. It’s extremely liberating and relieving. You don’t even need much time in the day.

A few years ago, I made it a point to do this. Every day, even if only for a few minutes I would show up and create. I would pour out whatever was on my heart, even if it just meant scribbling in my journal, I would do it.

It’s a wonderful way to practice expression, and of course, just make art!

So here are some ways I like to do this either on a sheet of paper I have lying around, or more often, in my journal. You really don’t need many tools. The important thing is just to show up and have an open heart.

So let’s begin! 🙂

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.”

-Martha Graham

These next videos are all stand-alone projects and don’t have to be done in any particular order. You can choose to start with whichever one speaks to you most, and of course, please try some of your own!
