Little Bits of Nature

So let’s begin with a warm-up project!

I always love taking nature walks, especially right after it rains. The fresh smell of rain in the air as the trees and leaves come alive, I feel, is magical in itself.

During my walks with my kids I have learned to stop and find magic in the little things.

We enjoy seeing how raindrops on leaves create little crystals, reflecting a whole little world in itself, how the busy bees go about their business, how the flowers dance with the breeze…

In this lesson you can use my reference photos, but I also encourage you to take a nature photo of your own. Take that magic that you’ve captured on your phone or camera and paint it.

You can also bring along your sketchbook on your walk and paint “en plein air”, as we only need very few supplies.

It can be very simple, and will only take a few minutes, but you will find it’s a great way to get your creative juices flowing for the day, and of course, wonderful practice too.

So here we go!

I have also created a step by step PDF with progress photos that you can download here:

Little bits of nature: part one
little bits of nature: part two

Wasn’t that fun?

It’s really wonderful watercolor practice and you can even fill many pages of your journal with these nature findings — and maybe add a faery or two.

Now that we’ve got our creativity flowing we can move on to the next project as we paint a child’s face in watercolor!
