Now that we’ve found our portal and met our faery guide in the first meditation, we can begin to explore the faery realm.
Before we do this, I want to remind you that this is not a child’s game or something to take lightly. The faery world exists alongside our own and if we venture there we must be both respectful and cautious.
Because of the past, Faeries have every reason to be cautious and even reluctant to work with us, so it’s important we let them know we mean well and will cause no harm.
Remember, we are entering their territory now, and while most may be curiously excited to meet you, there may also be some that will be rather reluctant or even hostile. If you sense this, just keep walking and move on. Your faery guide is there to protect and guide you and you can always return back to your conscious state whenever you want by either clapping your hand or ringing a bell which will jolt you out of your meditative state. You can also repeat the words three times “I am home” and this will take you back to your room.
If it makes you feel more tranquil and secure, there are some other methods of protection and caution you can use before, during, or after journeying, some of which I use myself.
This also keeps you safe from any unwanted faery spirits following you back into the Earthly realm.
This is not to alarm you but only to help you feel safe and secure while journeying to make your experience as calm and enjoyable as possible.
Here are a few things I found helpful to know before entering their realm:
- Call on your spirit animal guide to accompany if you want extra protection or reassurance. (They can also take you back out in an instant if necessary.)
- Using incense during astra travel and journeying can enhance your concentration. Make sure to use a light one, as faeries don’t like heavy scents. Some good options are lavender, rose, lilac, jasmine, magnolia, and vanilla.
- Be respectful to all you meet — even the most tiny faeries. Size and power are not relevant in the faery realm. Never stop for too long to talk or play with any, as time in the faery realm holds no conception. Just politely move on when you are ready.
- Always ask permission each time you enter the faery realm. This is not only being polite but also common sense. If someone enters your home you would expect them to do the same.
- If you feel any sort of unease or fear when meeting a faery being, either keep walking and move on or come out of your meditation by clapping your hands and saying “I am home” three times.
- Don’t ask a faery his or her true name. Faeries rarely reveal their real name to us, and if they do, it is only if they trust you completely.
- Be prepared to answer questions and do so with respect. Many will wonder why you are there and you will need to explain your heart-felt motives. Let them know you are there to help them and that you want to work together with them. Be open and honest as faeries can see through to your heart and know when you are speaking the truth.
- Faeries will often offer you food or drink but it’s best not to accept. It may entice you to stay longer than you planned and time has no concept in faery land. It’s best to politely decline, thanking them at the same time.
- Always bring a “Gift” with you. This doesn’t have to be a gift in the physical sense, but if you meditate with a crystal you can offer it when you come across a faery King or Queen. These powerful beings expect respect and reverence and will likely be offended if not treated accordingly.
- Sometimes some faeries follow you back. Don’t worry if this happens. Most are friendly and just want to hang out with you in your home. If you sense one that isn’t friendly you can use one of the methods below to send them back.
Methods of protection
Protective stones and talismans
While journeying, I often hold a protection stone in one hand and a faery crystal in the other to offer as a gift or show my respect.
Any of the ones I related to in the last chapter are perfect for that.My usual go-to for protective stones are black Tourmaline, Obsidian, Labradorite, Amethyst, and Pyrite, which I hold in my right hand as the right side of our body reflects energy (while the left absorbs).
But please feel free to use whatever you normally use for journeying or whatever feels comfortable to you. This could also be a talisman or another object you feel protected with.
Iron
Iron also keeps faeries at bay. Be aware that using this might also keep the friendly ones away so use it wisely and only if you feel you really need it.
Carry a nail in your right pocket if you feel you need protection or place an iron item by your front door
Smoke and ashes
Although there are many fire faeries, they dislike smoke and ashes. Burn some sage to dispel unwanted spirits or carry some ashes in a little pouch.
Protective herbs
There are many protective dried herbs and plants that keep any unwanted spirits away. If you feel you need this protection you can hang some bundles around your house. The traditional thread used to bind these bundles is white, black, or red. Do not leave them unbound as that would attract instead of dispel.
Some common examples are tomato plants, clove, blackberry, black pepper, sandalwood, frankincense, mint, lily, witch hazel, and garlic.
Other protective items you can use are:
- Salt (especially sea salt and black salt)
- Windchimes (this startles the faeries)
- Pentagram or Brigid’s cross
There are many more I haven’t mentioned here but these are the ones I am more familiar with.
Remember that you can also ask your guardian angel to accompany you or any spirit guide you are familiar with.
I’d love to hear your experiences and methods as well!
So now that you have all the tools you need to feel safe and protected, you have no need to worry about anything at all.
Remember that this can be a life changing, magical experience!
When we stay open and honest with a pure heart, we can be sure to attract the friendly and open faery beings that are eager and happy to work with us.
I believe you have felt called to this workshop for a reason. Most probably, the faeries chose you to be their voice, their hands, their eyes, and their messenger. It’s up to you to make that contact and take the first step.
