Moments in Time

When first starting out with watercolor, I used to practice a lot by painting children’s faces. 

A child’s features have very little grooves and shadows, which make it all the easier to get the values right.

I love painting the eyes nice and big, which is a typical feature in children’s faces.  

I find that if I stay open to creative play, not necessarily trying to get a likeness or get it perfect, I can more easily capture the “spirit” of the child in the painting. 

In this project, we paint my toddler Mike, but feel free to paint your kids or grandchildren too. 

You’ll find that other than practicing and learning a lot by painting this way, you will also have some beautiful keepsake for your family.   

So let’s begin! 

And remember, enjoy yourself and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, splash around and just have fun.
