Painting

During the month I was filming this class, I spent a weekend by the Adriatic seaside. It’s not far from where I live here in Italy and we go fairly often.

I like to bring along my watercolors and a journal or watercolor block, just incase I get inspired to paint something..

That’s how this painting started. I sketched her while at the beach, then later that day I saw all these beautifully colored sail boats and my imagination started running wild…

I later decided to being it back to the studio to film as I painted and completed her with collage papers, and then finally, to mount the painting on a wooden panel.

As I didn’t use a photo reference for this one, (and used my own hand as a reference guide), you can either use my painting as a reference, or look up your own on the Pintrest Board!

Why not think about some things that inspired you while vacation, color or patterns that drew your interest.

It could be anything from little colorful houses or trees. Maybe you saw some beautiful hand painted pottery or mosaic patterns, some colorful kimonos or interesting textile, colorful butterflies or intricate leaves…

Look for something that catches your eye or interest and would be suitable to recreate with colorful paper and collage. The ideas are endless!

But first things first! Let’s paint her shall we?

Try using colors that compliment and look good with the shades you will be using for the collage… it helps bring everything together in the end. 😉
