Now that our layers of collage is completely dry we can start adding some paint to soften the ephemera and make it all more cohesive.
I choose paints in a similar color palette as the collage I used, using the wet wipe to reveal any spots I covered up too much with paint. You can also make marks, add pencil lines and doodles in between just to add extra interest.
Next we can begin painting our totem.
I used this reference photo for the owl’s head, but feel free to use your own photos depending on which spirit animals show up for you.
You’ll also want to make sure the paint is completely dry before you start adding your pastel layers towards the end.
