Painting our house faeries

Right after this workshop launched I was moving houses.

I was initially a little sad about moving, as we had only been in that place for a year and I had finally made friends with the house faeries there.

It was difficult at first, as they weren’t exactly happy to have intruders. Being an old house they seemed to have been there forever and felt quite in charge.

I’ve admit that I’ve moved houses so many times in my life that each experience varies form the next.

The moment I stepped in this new place I felt welcome. It’s almost as if they had been waiting for me -which was quite surprising.

One day not long ago, as I went over to clean and ready it for our move, I was thinking “I wonder what these new house faeries are like”…

Suddenly I heard giggles and little feet shuffling. I also had the feeling of eyes watching me, but not in a creepy way.
I grinned and thought – since the house is empty – I wonder where they could be hiding. They must have sensed that I sensed them cause I heard more giggles and more feet shuffling.

I walked into the hallway – there is a little wall cupboard, the type you would put the broom and dustpan in – and I slowly opened the door saying “don’t worry, you have nothing to fear. You see, I’m Your friend… We will have such fun together!”
I couldn’t see them with my physical eyes, but the moment I closed them I saw them clearly in my minds’ eyes.

They were little gnomes, no more than little children.
I told them that they were smart to make themselves invisible, that I knew it for their protection… but they could come out and play with me if they wanted to.

Suddenly I had the idea to turn on some Faery music on while I cleaned.
I could just feel them Laughing and dancing all Around me and before I knew it I had finished quite fast and everything sparkling clean.
When I got home I decided to get my Faery journal out and sketch them as best I could.

A couple weeks later, once I had my art studio set up I decided to paint them. I wanted to capture that experience and dedicate this fun page for them for the beginning of a wonderful new friendship together.

Since I hadn’t captured the sketching part on video I took this photo so you can use it as reference. You are welcome to trace or copy it if that makes it easier, but please feel free to draw your own house faeries if you feel inspired to do so.

I would love to see who shows up for you!
