Painting the Elves of Light

I’m so excited to share this next project with you!

I felt the Elven energy so strong as I created this project– their soft and ethereal magic glowing from the page.

Working with watercolor is all about patience. Going slow, and letting layers dry in between. Think about how these beautiful ethereal faeries moved, how graceful they seemed, and try to bring that vibe onto your page.

If you feel intimidated with the drawing part, you can also print out my pencil sketch here  and copy it.

As you will see, I had a frontal face handy just to start off and get the proportions in check, but I mostly used my memory as I painted the Elven Queen from my journey. It is handy to have a reference photo of some kind to start off with especially if you are new to drawing, so feel free to download this one:

The Elves of Light part one: drawing

the elves of light part two: choosing a color palette

the elves of light part three: foundation layers

the elves of light part four: adding definition and contrast

the elves of light part five: final details

Wasn’t that fun? I really love adding the splashes at the end, it feels so liberating (don’t ask me why! lol)

It’s amazing that when we let go and let the faeries guide us we can open up to magical possibilities.

I never have a precise plan when I start painting, even if I start out with an idea it usually merges into whatever my soul (and the faeries) wants to say.

I can’t wait to see what you create for this project! Don’t forget to share your work in the Facebook group!
