Painting the sky and moon

Have you ever had an image in your mind, maybe from a dream, or even just your imagination, and you longed to make it into a painting?

I am a vivid dreamer. Sometimes I wake up and have the images still fresh in my mind and want to paint it as soon as I can so I can transmit the whole scene on paper or canvas.

This is exactly what happened with this painting.

Sometimes, when I’m not sure exactly just how to go about it, and I want to get more concrete images and ideas to actually form the dream into one striking scene, I go on Pinterest or google and flip through images. If I’m lucky, or look long enough, I find something that resembles almost exactly what I imagined. Other times I find one piece of the puzzle and the rest I just let it unfold in the painting.

Since I work very intuitively like this, I still like to have a reference photo to sort of ‘launch’ with. It helps me to start without worrying about getting proportions right and just concentrating on getting the feeling in the piece.

I’m going to show you how I like to do this, and most especially, the importance of movement and how that can affect the whole mood and flow of the scene.

As we create this next painting, just take it one step at a time, and remember to really listen to your intuition as you go. Don’t rush. I know I tend to want to finish everything so quickly, but sometimes it helps to take breaks in-between and come look at it with fresh eyes. Let the painting lead you and guide the way…and most of all, have fun!

Free again

“Lost in that moment frozen in time
All thoughts disappear , worries left behind

Lost in that moment of pure joy and freedom
When nothing else matters but wild abandon.

Lost in that moment the magic begins
Just me and the moon, my soul free again.”
