So let’s begin by creating our background.
I like to work in layers as it gives a more luminous looks to the painting.
We want to create a cozy winter sunset type of atmosphere with warm colors, but please feel free to create with the color palette you feel inspired to use.
Part two – The background
First we paint a circle for the sun, creating a glow around it. As we move outward we form a subtle shading from light to dark.
Once that’s dry we can begin adding the shape of the trees. To create depth, the trees in the distance should be lighter and then darken as they are more in the foreground.
Next we add the grass sprinkled with snow, making sure to let some of the underlayers peek through. I like to do this with the dry brushing technique, adding that dreamy fading effect. We also add some snow to the tree branches.
Once everything is completely dry we can go ahead an begin to add our figures.
