The figures

Now we can begin to draw our figures with a pastel pencil. I like to avoid using graphite over our background as it can be harder to erase afterwards.

You can also use my template and trace it onto the wood round if that makes it easier, or use the oval method I suggest in the video.

Part three – The figures

Once we have drawn them with pastel we can outline the figures with a thin brush. This helps us to see them more clearly over the background showing underneath.

We can then continue on by painting the fox and the girl, adding details to her cloak with a posca pen.

As a final touch we can add some snow flakes by splashing some diluted white with a thin brush, flicking it also near the foxes feet as he kicks up the snow.

Once it’s all dry we can add a protective layer varnish over it – I like to use the Liquitex satin varnish.

You can add a hook at the top or back to hang on your wall or tree, or follow me to the next step and turn it into a fun little dreamcatcher with me. It’s your painting so you are free to do whatever you are inspired to.
