before we go to actually painting a male face in acrylic, lets take it slow and do a warm up drawing.
We will draw a portrait of my brother in charcoal. Now you can use any reference photo you like, of your son or husband, brother or friend, or even your favorite actor.
My brother Michael, who’s an actor, kindly gave us permission to use his photos, which fit perfectly for this lesson, which all about adding some DRAMA! Fun!
So once you’ve decided on your reference photo, let’s get started!
Wasn’t that fun? I’ve found it’s really a great way to learn values and practice with shadows and lights before we move onto adding color.
So now that we’ve warmed up we can move onto the painting!
I especially chose this painting of my brother in his latest film because I think he looks so determined and intense. It’s a perfect way to express our determination and add some drama to our art. I think that with lots of practice, but most of all determination, we can do just about anything if we put out minds to it right?
I know you can!
