Creative Inspiration

It’s been over a month now since my class started and the students have been creating some amazing work!

I would never have dreamed how happy this would make me! The artwork posted in the dedicated Facebook group has blown me away! I couldn’t be more thrilled to have inspired such magic! I am so proud of each and every one of them, they have stepped out of their comfort zone, trusted the process, and shared a little bit of their story. Here are some of the beautiful creations!

When I asked my students if they would be willing to write some feedback of the class I was delighted and moved to tears when I heard their inspiring response!

  • “I always thought Katrina would be an amazing teacher and I was right. This class is amazing. I love how well you instruct and demonstrate your process. I love the added videos of inspiration. The encouragement you provide for those taking the class is great too. I’ve learned a lot and I appreciate the time and attention to detail you put in every project. Thank you for sharing with us and I look forward to taking many more of your classes. You are not only gifted but have an incredible heart.”  -Paulette Sheffield
  • “I love the beauty and magic you can find in your everyday surroundings. Your class reminded me to wake up, look around, and not take anything for granted. You also did a wonderful job leading us through the steps to create, making it easy to follow along or head in our own directions with a piece. Fabulous class. Can’t wait to work on my last piece:)” – Pamela Albino Martin
  • I first met Katrina in an online art class and right away we became friends who have shared, encouraged and supported each other in our art journey.
I knew right away that she was destined for bigger and better things. Her talent is endless with watercolor and acrylics.
Her very first online class is filled with joy, warmth, inspiration and techniques.

She is one of the best teachers I have had and I have had lots!
I look forward to many more classes and witnessing all the wonderful opportunities that come Katrina’s way!”
    – Fay Badger Goode
  • “I have really enjoyed your class, Katrina. You’re a very inspiring person who lives from the heart, and this to me is something so beautiful to witness. You have generously given your time and knowledge to the students, helping each of us to trust ourselves and become confident in what we do. Your warm, kind, and light energy is also reflected in your work, which is amazing. I’m considering in taking future classes with you, if it is not the very next one (finances) I will for sure take part in others, no doubt. I would recommend your classes to anyone who is in search of artistic knowledge, wisdom, friendship, a boost in life … the warmth of this community is wonderful!” – Ingrid Leva
  • “I really enjoyed your class! Your approach and individual style, it’s something you don’t find so often. Your class is beautiful, warming and personal, you have a gift of making everyone feel good and comfortable with their art and want us to explore and create. I really admire you for all you have put into this class to share your experience and passion, well done!” – Inge Koltes
  • “I love your class! It gave me a boost! There opened a big door of possibilities. In between your lessons I started with the acrylic watercolor style class. There is a lot happening in my life about my health and fighting to be a “normal ” Sandra again. Your class helps me to process it into art. I learn to use symbolism and how to express myself true art. I don’t think you know how much this means to me. Thank you so much for sharing! And thank you for helping me go through this all whitout knowing. The love you put into it is so clear! Please keep going on and make new classes!!!” – Sandra Duvivier
  • “Your work is amazing, and your teaching ability seems to come to you so naturally. You are obviously very warm natured and a caring sharing person, which really does shine through in all you do, and particularly in the way you teach – your videos are so lovely to watch and listen to. You’ve already promised us an acrylic workshop in the new year – we will all hold you to that!” – Val Thomas
  • It was difficult to actually believe this was your first class Katrina. You put everything across so beautifully and inspired me to want to try your techniques again. Your talent is just amazing!”  – Mo Morgan
  • “I started off thinking it would be fun to learn from Katrina and to discover some of her magical techniques. And yes, all this is true. In addition, Katrina goes deeper and covers inspiration and intuitive painting that brings out even more creativity from the class! It is wonderful seeing all the mystical worlds that everyone is posting here! Thank you Katrina, for bringing us this class! I’m looking forward to many others in the future!” – Lori Heather
  • “I can only join all these so wonderful contributions only and confirm it. I find your lessons wonderful, inspiring, profound with a lot of new, valuable information. As you see, I slowly approach the lessons, so I can evaluate all your painterly work for me. Grandios Katrina, you do your thing and I find this very unique and valuable. Thank you.” – Marianna Danlasterre
  • “Katrina has been so supportive of my work in another online class and I was so inspired by her work that I had to be in her first class! Watching her excitement while developing the class, even while sick and working another job is amazing in itself. Now that I’m taking the classes, you have taught me so much it’s overwhelming and yet with a sweet voice and gentle nudges at a very calm pace. Thank you for sharing your story and beautiful art.” – Julie Bishop

I am extremely inspired and deeply moved, and I can’t wait to start planning my next online workshop!

I am already brimming with ideas and can’t wait to share it all with you!

I hope to continue to inspire you to keep creating, and keep moving forward!

I would love to have you join me in this class if you haven’t signed up already! I hope to encourage you to discover your creative voice, release that inner magic, and all those emotions we so often keep burning under the surface.

My next class will especially be about that very subject.. discovering your inner voice and releasing your emotions onto the canvas! I can’t wait to reveal more exciting news, and take you along on this wonderfully creative wild ride!

With this New Year comes new beginnings, new creative discoveries, and many new exciting adventures together! 🙂

In the mean time , enjoy watching this time lapse video as I create an intuitive acrylic painting!

The cat is out of the bag!

So it is now official, and the news is finally out! I am SO excited to announce my upcoming mixed media online workshop, hosted by the amazing and talented artist Ivy Newport!

into the myst logo2.jpg

This is such an honor for me, as I’ve had the desire to make this workshop since a while now, and when Ivy asked me if I was interested in working together I was thrilled! I cannot thank her enough for believing in me and giving me this opportunity! 🙂

The reason we decided on the title “Into the myst – discovering the magic within” is because this workshop for me is a lot more than just teaching the techniques I use.

This workshop is like showing a little piece of me, and bringing to light the way I have come to paint intuitively. In this workshop I will reveal to you my secrets on how I get my inspiration, and how you can do the same, discovering the magic we all have inside of us. The magic that resides all around us, in our imagination, and in our dreams. I will show you how I invite the magic into my home, to my art room, and onto my canvas, creating atmosphere and intention.

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”  Albert Einstein

In this online course I will be showing you how I like to use my art supplies. For example, how to create subtle glows and glazes with watercolor or acrylics, how to tell your on story using symbols and imagery that resonate with you, how to create fantasy scenes with watercolor on different substrates, how to create skin tones and glazes with acrylics, and how to make interesting line work and flowing hair with volume using ink pens, how to create a whole fantasy scene with the illusion of movement and how it can tell the viewer it’s own story, and much more!

So if you are as excited as I am to start this journey, then join me as we enter into the magical myst of our imagination! I will be showing more as we go along to inspire you and keep you updated!

I hope to see you there, and since there will be limited spots available you can get on the waitlist here:

And just for fun here is sneak preview of the first project, which will be all about discovering our spirit animals, and by painting them, asking them to help us release our imagination and showing our intent.

And here is a sneak peek of the first layers of the second project, where we will start creating a magical scene with watercolors and acrylic portrait using our intuition and imagination, and creating the ‘glowing’ effect I am so fond of.

photo (1).JPG

Some examples of my acrylic portraits and the glow effect are these paintings, we will be creating something similar, but even MORE interesting….

PhototasticCollage-2016-08-25-14-16-49So stay tuned! I hope to see you there, and would love to have you in my class!

And in the mean time, as I send some fairy dust your way, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes 🙂

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman

Lots of exciting news coming up!

I am so excited about this new turn in my life! I am planning my very first online art class!

I’ve taken so many workshops online in the past few years, but I never really stopped to notice how much work goes into it all. It’s a huge job. It’s time consuming. And I know that’s one thing a lot of us who have kids or/and day jobs have very little of: time.

But I am a determined person, and anyone who knows me even just a little bit knows nothing will stop me once I decide on something!

So here’s to all you ladies out there who are determined, who juggle work with art and kids, and who always find the time to show up no matter what. Keep doing what you do, keep showing up, because it definitely pays off. Sometimes that’s what keeps me going. All the sleepless nights, painting with bad light, putting up with all kinds of crap at work, well its all just so WORTH IT when you create isn’t it? When someone resonates with your work, or when someone else is inspired by it, it just makes it all so worth the while.

I created my very first video the other day, which was actually a try out while I was learning how to use the editing program for my online class. You can watch it on You tube here:

So if you like my work and want to discover your own special magic – or maybe you already have your own magic but are curious to try something new, don’t forget stay tuned for the upcoming details of my super exciting, very first online class! I wish I could announce it already but that would be getting ahead of myself, lol!

And if in the meantime I don’t post as much art on my Facebook or Instagram page, well that’s because I’m filming for my lessons, and ofcourse that’s a surprise! 🙂  But I am also doing Jane Davenports’ awesome mermaid workshop “Vitamin sea” at the same time so I can have some inspiration and playtime in my journal once in a while, (playtime is very important!) so I will be posting those. Here is a peek of the start of my storybook journal…

So, all of you gorgeous art souls out there, the best advice I can give you today is to just ‘show up’ even it’s just a little tiny bit each day. Creating regenerates your soul, frees your mind and keeps the inspiration fresh and your imagination flowing! Go get those brushes out and make a mess, have fun, and don’t forget to post your work so I can see it! 🙂

Oh! And stay tuned for a super fun video where I will be showing some of my journals, even from a couple of years ago! It’s always fun to see how our work evolves isn’t it! Fun fun fun!

Just breathe

Yesterday was one of those days. We all have them.

You just want to cancel it from your memory and maybe even from the face of the earth. Just get it over with as soon as possible so you can go on to better days.

So I decided the moment I got up this morning.. Man, I need a walk!

And not just a stroll in the park. No, I mean one of those vigorous, sweat-breaking walks up-hill, a really steep hill. Or maybe even a run.

Anything to get all that negative energy out and make space for the positive.

You know, I work in a busy airport as ground staff. And there are some days when you have this huge long cue, you’re dead tired and maybe haven’t eaten or drank anything since hours and hours. And in that never ending cue, you have stressed out passengers who are angry. And I mean red faced, ‘the whole world is against me’ angry.

And let me tell you, angry passengers are not fun. Maybe they got stuck in traffic and missed their flight, or maybe their flight has hours of delay, or maybe they’re just nervous flyers, whatever! But oh boy, they can’t wait for their turn at your desk to come and bite your head off!

And so I sit there, listen to what they have to say, and try to keep a straight face when inside all I wanna do is yell back at them “Incase you haven’t noticed, I am having a hell of a day too so go take your insults elsewhere!”

Well, that’s when I start to picture myself in a forest or on the top of a mountain, completely and utterly ALONE, with complete and utter SILENCE. Ahhhh.

And I think, all this doesn’t last forever (although it sure may seem like it). The day does end eventually. And then good riddance!  I can get back to better and brighter things!

So this morning I got up and couldn’t wait to take my brisk walk up that hill, burn off all that negative energy and let it just roll off of me. I listened to the sounds of nature, the birds singing, the rustle of the leaves in the breeze, and oh, the sweet silence!

And it calms me. It fills me with a whole new energy, a positive energy.

And then I don’t care anymore about the people that yelled at me, or called me names, or made me fell like crap. It’s all behind me. I’m just living in this moment, right here, right now, connecting with myself and I feel whole again.

I just breathe.

Making a start

Hi everyone! This is my very first blog post!

I have always wondered what in the world am I going to say here, but actually, if I think about it, there is always so much to say and things we feel and experience throughout our wonderful and sometimes hectic lives that we don’t always stop and talk about it.

I just came back from a vacation in Greece, where I spent lots of time at the sea and in the nature. The nature makes me feel alive, renewed, and totally refreshed! I want to CREATE when I am surrounded by so much beauty!

And so I did, I sketched and painted and created in my journal, just expressing myself as best I could. And it was so liberating! When we don’t have to create some masterpiece or something fancy, just not worrying about what the outcome will be or what anyone will think about it, that’s when we have FUN! That’s something I have to keep reminding myself outside of my journal too. When I don’t have to worry about the outcome I can really let loose and that’s when the magic happens!

Oh, and one more thing!  Don’t wait till you get an ‘inspiration’ to start creating, cause those don’t come every day out of the blue! Just sit down and start, even with no specific thing in mind, and hey, it works all the time! The ideas will come once you touch that pencil or paintbrush to the paper, you will start to create and then inspiration will find you! happy creating today! 🙂  photo 1.JPG
